The Brantley Rural Club met with 11 members and one guest present in the home of Dorothy and August Cook on April 19th at 1:30 p.m.

Dorothy gave a devotion on stress and how to let it go.

The hostess served an array of refreshments.

During this time they celebrated with Dorothy, Mary Sasser, Jeane Everage and Merle Compton who all have April birthdays.

The club expressed get-well wishes and a speedy recovery to Susie Carnes after her recent surgery.

The next meeting will be hosted by Inez Rayborn at her home on May 17th.

The members of the club had pieced 15 squares of The Freedom Quilt they are doing as a service project.

The center of each square is signed by the member who pieced the square.

Delores Mount will assemble the quilt top.

This quilt was started after a member of the club, Eva Adkission, read an article in &#8220Friends and Family Magazine Spring 2007”, by Darryal Ray, that told a heart-warming story about Jo Reid of Scottsboro.

Ms. Reid had started the Home of the Brave Quilt Project to provide the families of America's soldiers some measure of comfort by making a commemorative Civil War quilt for each fallen soldier's next of kin.

The descendants of Fern Taylor and friends are reminded of the annual family reunion to be held at the Mt. Ida Fellowship Hall on May 27, 2007.

The doors will open by 10 a.m.

Mark your calendar now, come early and bring a basket lunch which will be served at noon.

This will be a time of fellowship and reminiscing with kin and friends.

A reminder to veterans . . . A state law now requires that ALL Alabama schools are mandated to give high school diplomas to ALL veterans who served honorably in World War II and Korea upon their request.

The veteran should take a copy of DD-214 with him or her to the school where they attended to substantiate their honorable service in the military.

For those veterans who are deceased, the widow, widower or children of a vet can accomplish the same by providing a death certificate and a DD-214.

If the school no longer exists, present these same documents to the Superintendent of Education for the county to obtain the same results.

This is just another way to say THANKS to veterans whose education was interrupted due to wars.

They served to protect the freedom we have today.

The Beta Sigma Sorority is holding a yard sale to help support their many civic and service projects.
