The McKenzie High Tigers wrapped up the first full week of spring practice Friday with a full-on scrimmage and head coach Miles Brown said he has been pleased with his team's demeanor.

&#8220We've seen some improvement, but we've still got a long way to go,” Brown said.

On the defensive side of the ball, Brown said just learning the schemes has been the toughest assignment for his team.

&#8220Anytime you introduce a new scheme into the mix, it's going to take some time,” Brown said. &#8220But spring will be a good gauge to see how far we've come.”

On the offensive side of the ball, Brown said he has been making sure that each player knows his position and making sure the line knows their its assignments.

&#8220We've been very vanilla,” Brown said of the offense. &#8220We're just taking reps, reps, every single day.”

While the Tigers are just trying to cover the basics during these first two weeks, Brown said he has been extremely leased with the leadership and intensity his team has showed. &#8220We've got some guys who have stepped up as leaders, but I'm kind of leery because we didn't have that last year.”

&#8220And they're not just vocal leaders; they're leading by example,” he added.

Brown said if his team can keep up the leadership and band together, great things can happen in McKenzie.

&#8220It's easy to lead today, but it takes a man to keep leading tomorrow,” Brown said.

Over the weekend Brown and his staff will go over film before returning to the practice field Monday.

The Tigers will host a Blue-White scrimmage Friday at 1:30 p.m., and then close out spring practice May 18 against New Brocton.
