Several building projects in the Camellia City are on track for completion in the near future, according to City Inspector Eddie Anderson.

Anderson shared an update with the Greenville Planning Commission at Monday afternoon's regular meeting.

Hook's Barbecue is 90 percent completed and should be ready for opening by the end of May, Anderson said.

NAOS Theatre is at 50 percent completion and still on schedule for its July 13 opening date.

El Rodeo is at 40 percent completion, while Greenville Commons is on schedule with a projected June 15 completion date.

While little visible progress has been made at the David's Catfish site, Anderson said developers still plan to have the restaurant completed by August.

New business was as follows:

n Approval for a development plan at 400 Industrial Drive to modify the existing Sylvest building to accommodate new mode of transportation for baby chicks.

n Approval of development plan presented by Ray McCullough for site work at USA Travel Center, Hwy. 185, with exception of approval of landscape ordinance.

Eventual plans include adding a canopy and increasing building size by 75 percent.

n Approval (with one abstention, Allen Stephenson) of subdivision of property at Norman Road, from a single 2.69-acre lot to three smaller lots for construction of single-family homes by builder Earl Martin.

Current Norman Road resident Nancy Wright questioned the &#8220consistency” of creating smaller lots for houses, saying all previous homes have been on 2-acre lots.

&#8220As long as it meets our requirements and is on street frontage, we go by the city regulations,” explained Planning Commission Chair Glenn Branum.

Martin said the homes would be in the $180,000-$200,000 price range.

n Approval of subdivision of property at 85 Zinnia Lane of Ann Cargile, requested by Chris Turner. Turner requires .39 acres for the construction of a barn.

Approval contingent on presentation of an additional plan to show where Cargile's land is connected to Turner's.

n Debbie Martin, on behalf of Robert Bishop, presented a request for subdivision of property at Cahaba and Willow Lane, increasing lot sizes from 150' x 150' to 180' x 150' to allow for additional parking . Due to the issue of additional access to Cahaba Road, the request was tabled until the next meeting.

Additionally, commission members agreed to Anderson's request to consider returning to its written procedures by requiring development plans be presented and discussed at one meeting, then voted on at the next meeting.

&#8220I think this would mean a lot. You would not be forced to make a decision in a matter of minutes,” Anderson said.

The city inspector said he would make sure all those coming into his office with development plans were aware of the change.

The next city planning commission meeting is scheduled for June 4.
