Local churches host Mother#039;s Day programs

On Sunday, May 13, 2007, the children of Petrey UMC honored the women of the church with a Mother’s Day program.

Ms. Ashley Meadows gave the invocation and presented a devotional reading about Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist, and Mary, mother of Jesus, according to Luke.

After the reading of the scripture, Mr. Blake Meadows and Miss Lara Leigh Kelley presented each lady with a rose as a token of their appreciation on Mother’s Day.

In addition, Mrs. Valeta Spradley was recognized as the oldest mother of Petrey UMC, and Mrs. Kristin Kelley was recognized as the youngest.

On Sunday, May 13, Campground UMC hosted its annual Mother’s Day program by honoring the oldest mother of the church, Mrs. Verby Jones, and the youngest mother, Ms. Leigh Tranum.

In addition, roses were presented to all 34 mothers of the church in honor of Mother’s Day.

On Saturday, May 12, Mr. John Jones of Campground was honored with a birthday supper at the home of Mr. Danny and Mrs. Brandy Jones.

His wife Billy, son Tyler, and many other family members were in attendance.

On Friday evening, May 11, Mrs. Laura Elliott attended the LBWCC spring graduation ceremonies held at Kiwanis Community Center in Andalusia, AL.

Mayor Dexter McLendon of Greenville served as the guest speaker.

A reception followed the graduation exercises.

On Saturday, May 12, Mrs. Patsy Jeffcoat traveled to Albany, GA, to visit her daughter Kimberly Inlow, her son-in-law Ryan Inlow, and her three grandchildren, Ansley, Amelia, and Caroline.

On Sunday evening, she and her husband Kline entertained her parents Mr. Lawrence and Mrs. Margaret Petrey, her daughter Ms. Allison Jeffcoat, Mr. David Williams (guest of Allison Jeffcoat), and Mr. William and Mrs. Neva Petrey for a Mother’s Day dinner.

On Tuesday, May 15, Miss Lara Leigh Kelley performed in the annual dance recital presented by The Dance Center in Luverne.
