Three young ladies from area high schools shared their experiences at a leadership camp during the Greenville Lions Club's Monday meeting.

Brittany Huckaba and Jessica Bush, students at Fort Dale Academy, and Heather Blackmon, a student at Greenville High, were guests for the noon luncheon meeting at the Boys and Girls Club.

The three joined 25-30 other young women from across the state who attended the Lions Youth Leadership Camp at Camp Chandler, located on the shores of Lake Jordan. The event, held May 4-6, proved both challenging and very enjoyable, the teens said.

Team building exercises held during camp helped the girls learn to use their leadership abilities. They were also &#8220a lot of fun,” said Huckaba.

The camp participants competed in basketball, kickball, volleyball and other sports along with a lively skit competition. They also attended classes on leadership and worshipped together in a church service on Sunday morning.

Bush's team proved to be the &#8220dominating team,” in many competitions, Blackmon said with a grin.

&#8220They won most everything,” she said.

Bush said she particularly enjoyed helping create her team's skit, based on the MTV show, &#8220Room Raiders.”

&#8220We also put in commercial breaks just like TVŠ.and everything taught a good moral lesson. The show taught you the importance of organizing your life. The Starburst commercial, don't talk to strangersŠthe identity theft commercial, don't steal,” Bush explained.

The three teens said the food was delicious, the camp counselors, very helpful and supportive, and the overall experience a great opportunity to build their leadership skills.

&#8220We would definitely recommend this to other high school students,” Huckaba said.

&#8220We've been talking about it at school. In fact, you guys will have so many people applying, you won't have a problem getting someone to go,” Blackmon added with a smile.

The teens thanked the Lions for giving them the opportunity to attend this year's camp.

In other Lions news, President Doyle Sasser announced $6, 030 had been given by the local club to various Lions charities in 2007, among them Lions Sight, Southeastern Guide Dogs, Southeastern Diabetes Education Services and the Lions Youth Leadership Camp.

&#8220We will also have our Mobile Sight Unit here in Butler County this week, visiting elementary schools in the county,” Sasser said.

The Greenville Lions will also be sponsoring

The Annual Memorial Day Celebration set from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, May 28 in Confederate Park.

Live music by Blu Braden, a patriotic service, veterans walk of honor and a cookout are all planned for the event, which is open to the public.

Lion Bill McCrary, manager of the Greenville Wal-Mart, presented Sasser with a check for $1,000 to help cover the expenses of the event.
