The Butler County Sheriff's Office has been busy the past few weeks, making several drug arrests inside the city limits of Greenville and in the rural areas of the county.

On Thursday, sheriff's deputies arrested Anthony Maye, 45, of Georgiana and charged him with possession of marijuana, 1st degree. According to Sheriff Kenny Harden, Maye is a minister. His bond was set at $10,000.

The arrest was made in conjunction with agents of the Alabama Wildlife and Fisheries, said Harden, who spotted Maye and his truck on Wednesday backed up on a rural road near Long Creek in south Butler County.

An investigation into the woods around the road revealed approximately 43 marijuana plants that Harden said Maye had been working over a period of time. Deputies arrested Maye when he returned on Thursday to the scene.

&#8220This is yet another example of agencies working together to rid Butler County of drugs,” said Harden.

Harden said estimated street value of the marijuana was $100,000.

Other arrests made the sheriff's office:

n On May 11, a vehicle stop on Pine St. in Greenville led to the arrest of Willie Pereze Boggan, 22, who was wanted on a felony warrant, said Harden. Boggan attempted to flee the scene and was apprehended near Pizza Pro.

Boggan was charged with possession of a controlled substance (a large quantity of crack cocaine was discovered in the Boggan's vehicle, said Harden), as well as resisting arrest. Harden said Boggan remains in jail.

Greenville police aided in the arrest of Boggan.

n On May 15, Harden said Christopher Thompson, 45, and Michael Scott, 45, for possession of crack cocaine near Hicks St. in Greenville.

n On May 18, deputies pulled over Andrea Monique Stewart, 21, and found her in possession of marijuana and one ecstasy pill. She was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and first-degree possession of marijuana.
