The team of Joe and Marshall Watts sank an eagle putt on the first playoff hole on the Sherling Course No. 1 hole Sunday to take the 9th Annual Father-Son Tournament at Cambrian Ridge.

After the Watts' and the tandem of Frankie and Colby Owens both shot an identical 63-62-125 Saturday and Sunday, the two father-son duos were forced into a playoff, but the Watts' ended the tournament on the first hole.

The Greenville natives become the second team in three years to win the annual event.

Steve and Paul Norman won the tournament in 2005.

After the Watts' and the Odom's, Greenville natives David and Sanders Hancock took third place in the championship flight and Steve and Paul Norman took sixth.

In the first flight, John and Greg Stack took first place after playing three playoff holes.

Greenville natives Todd and Cody Norman were eliminated after the first playoff hole and the Stack's took down Chris and Cole Claassen on the third hole.

Joby and Michael Norman of Greenville took 17th in the first flight.

In the second flight, Robert and William Greenleaf took first place outright with a 70-66-136 while Brad and Dan Durchslag took first place outright in the third flight with a 71-67-138.

In the fourth flight, Ronnie and Jarrod Weems took first place with a 74-70-144 while Greenville natives Mike and Sam Norman took third with a 74-73-147.

In the fifth flight, John and Pat Ballard tied with Buddy and Buddy, Jr. Mesaris with a 75-71-146 and no playoff hole was played.

In the sixth flight, Randy and Sam Allison shot a 77-69-146 to take down Bobby and John Richards with a 78-70-148.

In the seventh flight, Bob and Brett Richards took home first place with an 83-76-159.

Adding even more excitement to the tournament, 10-year-old Brooks Rabren won the closest-to-the-hole prize on Canyon No. 2 with a hole-in-one from 135 yards out.

Marshall watts won closest to the hole on Canyon No. 8, David Newton won on Sherling No. 2 and Greenville's David Hancock won on Sherling No. 8.

Cambrian Ridge Sales and Marketing Director Danny Foster said this year's tournament was one of the best, with the great weather and Greenville natives coming out on top, and he is already looking forward to next year.

I've gotten nothing but positive feedback,” Foster said. &#8220I've already gotten e-mail from people saying ‘sign me up now for next year.'”

As the tournament has grown in numbers, from 13 teams the first year to 120 this year, and in success, Foster said he knows it will only get bigger.

But as for now, with limited carts and resources, Foster said the tournament should remain a 120-team event in the near future.

Next year's event is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend.
