Greenville police have arrested one man in connection with a May burglary that took place on Flowers St.

Sgt. Justin Lovvorn said Eddie Roy Lewis, 28, remains in the Butler County Jail after he confessed to a May 30 morning break-in of a residence on Flowers St. After kicking in the back door of the home, Lewis stole $600 in jewelry and $250 in assorted change, according to Lovvorn.

Lovvorn said he received a tip that someone had cashed in an unusually large amount of change at a currency exchange machine at Super Foods in Greenville. Lovvorn said he reviewed store surveillance tapes, saw Lewis cashing in the change and had him picked up and transported back to Greenville from Atmore, where he was staying.

He said Lewis confessed to the burglary during questioning.

Lovvorn said Lewis was just released from jail for a similar crime.

He was charged with burglary, 3rd degree.

Other arrests made:

n A burglary that occurred on Pine Apple Highway at the residence of an elderly man has been solved, said Lovvorn.

Police arrested Marchello Jones, 21, and a 12-year-old juvenile on June 12, charging both with burglary, 3rd degree. Jones remains in jail, while the juvenile was referred to juvenile court.

Lovvorn said the burglary actually occurred in late April, but was not reported immediately because the homeowner has been in poor health and not living there.

Relatives discovered the home had been ransacked and a television was missing from the premises.

The television has yet to be recovered, said Lovvorn.

n Investigators have recovered a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix, stolen from a residence on Walker Green Rd., said Lovvorn.

Lovvorn said he received information that the car had been sold to a recycling plant in the area and the car was found at the plant.

Police then arrested Antonio Simmons, 18, charging him with theft of property, 1st degree.

The vehicle has been processed and returned to the owner, said Lovvorn.
