A daylong manhunt ended in the arrest of one man suspected of robbing a convenience store at gunpoint in Georgiana early Sunday morning.

Michael Thomas Moore, 36, of McKenzie was charged with armed robbery and currently remains incarcerated in the county jail, according to Sheriff Kenny Harden. Moore is alleged to have entered the Chevron convenience store off I-65 in Georgiana at 4 a.m. on Sunday, wielding a shotgun and demanding money from the cash register. He then fled the scene, said Harden, which kicked off a manhunt in south Butler County that resulted in Moore's arrest later in the day.

Harden said Moore was finally cornered on a logging road near the Long Creek Hunting Club in Georgiana. Harden halted the truck Moore was driving.

&#8220He was coming out the road and I was going in,” he said. &#8220I drew down on him and he complied with the instructions I gave him.”

Moore faces a number of charges, said Harden, including robbery, 1st degree, theft of property, 1st degree, breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, burglary, 3rd degree, assault, 2nd degree, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a drug paraphernalia.

The truck Moore was using - a 2001 Ford Ranger - had been reported stolen from a McKenzie residence the night before, said Harden. The sheriff said deputies were already seeking Moore for an unrelated assault charge stemming from a Saturday night incident in which he was suspected of trying to run down a female with his vehicle.

Moore is also suspected of burglarizing a home a week ago, stealing a checkbook and forging his name to six different checks, said Harden.

Harden said he recovered crack cocaine and a pipe that Moore had thrown from his truck just before his arrest.

&#8220This was a drug-related crime,” said Harden. &#8220If we cut down on the drugs we'll cut down on crimes such as this.”

The Butler County Sheriff's Office, Georgiana Police Department, and Alabama Conservation officers conducted the manhunt jointly.

June 4: Bobby Neal Johnson, 52, possession of a controlled substance (crack cocaine) and possession of marijuana, 2nd degree.

June 6: Antonio Simmons, 18, possession of marijuana, 1st degree.

June 6: Richard Huggins, 26, possession of marijuana, 2nd degree.

June 7: Eric Wayne Pouncey, 24, possession of marijuana, 2nd degree.

June 8: William Earnest Turner, 49, possession of a controlled substance (seven crack cocaine rocks).

June 8: Steven Wayne Griffin, 36, possession of marijuana, 2nd degree. Griffin was arrested during a search warrant at a residence.
