The Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of Ben Blackmon as the next head football coach/athletic director of Greenville High School during Thursday's special called meeting.

Blackmon will teach science at GHS.

Former University of Alabama and Troy University football player Michael &#8220Mookie” Moore was also hired. Moore played with Blackmon at Troy and also in the NFL.

He will coach the Tigers' offensive line.

Blackmon takes over for Bryant Vincent, who left GHS after one season to take the same job at Spanish Fort High School in Baldwin County. Greenville was 10-3 in 2006.

Blackmon has spent the previous six years at Opelika High School, working as quarterbacks coach and two-minute offense coordinator for the Bulldogs. Blackmon played quarterback in 1996 under Opelika coach Spence McCracken when the latter was at Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery.
