Luverne High School's Davis Lester and Monterio May are standing out in the crowd when it comes to All-Star baseball this summer.

Lester, a rising senior, was nominated by Head baseball coach Andre Parks to participate in the selection of the East-West All-Star baseball team.

The East-West All-Stars showcase the best players in the state, and it allows college and professional scouts to view the players' talents.

Out of 71 players, Lester advanced to the final round of the All-Stars, which highlighted the top 32 juniors and seniors in the state.

Parks said that Lester finished the Tigers' season batting .470 with a team-leading 45 RBI.

Rising LHS sophomore Monterio May finished the season batting over .400 while leading the team in pitching.

May has been chosen for the Alabama Baseball Coaches' Association Underclassmen All-Star Team. Parks said that May was one of the youngest players in the state on the team.

The All-Star games will take place June 28 through July 1 at Troy University. The All-Star team will be coached by college coaches.

May's team will play this Saturday, June 30, at 9:50 a.m. and again at 2:50 p.m. They will play again on Sunday, July 1, at 4:30 p.m.

&#8220I am really proud of these two and of the talent they have shown,” Parks said. &#8220We had a great season last year, and we're going to look forward to another great one next year.”

The Luverne Tigers finished their regular season with 20 wins, surpassing their previous season of 19 wins.

In addition, Parks has made plans for the Luverne High Baseball Camp. The camp will be open for youth ages 5-13 and will be held July 11- July 13 at LHS.

The youth will learn the fundamentals of throwing, batting, base running and fielding.

Players can register Monday, July 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Luverne High School. The registration fee is $30.
