Dixie Youth All-Stars head to state tournament

The Dixie Youth All-Stars used four solid wins to roll through the district tournament in New Brockton and secure their spot in the state tournament.

The team combined solid offense with strong pitching to claim the district title.

&uot;It was wonderful,&uot; said Coach Keith Taylor. &uot;Both the players and their parents have done everything we’ve asked with no bickering and no fussing, and that’s why we’re playing like we are.&uot;

&uot;We have a motto - ‘We don’t care who gets the credit, just as long as the headline says Greenville wins,’&uot; Taylor said.

The team will travel to Tuscaloosa for the state tournament and play their first game on Saturday the 21st against the winner of District 2.

&uot;We’re going to start practicing on Monday,&uot; Taylor said.

Here are the results from the tournament:

Greenville 13, Elba 3

Toby King and Connally Walters each hit home runs for the All-Stars, while many others contributed hits.

Chip Taylor, John Dunn, Chase Whiddon, Harper Vinson, Dylan Jones, Andy Burns, and Wilson Lowe all had hits.

King, Taylor and Walters combined to secure the win from the mound.

Greenville 2, Brantley 0

In what proved to be the closest game of the tournament for the All-Stars, Toby King and Connally Walters drove in Chip Taylor and John Dunn to supply all the offense needed to defeat Brantley.

Taylor, Dunn, Chase Whiddon, Ryan Taylor, Dylan Jones and Wilson Lowe all contributed with hits.

Cade Tillery was the winning pitcher.

Greenville 10, New Brockton 0

Chase Whiddon pitched all six shut-out innings for the All-Stars.

Cade Tillery led the way offensively with four hits, including a home run. Toby King also had a home run. Chip Taylor, Ryan Taylor, Harper Vinson and Dylan Jones also had hits.

Greenville 11, Brantley 1

In the championship game, Greenville had no trouble dealing with the Brantley team that had played them closely last time.

Chip Taylor, Toby King, Connally Walters, Cade Tillery, Chase Whiddon, Harper Vinson and David Miller all had hits in the winning effort.

King pitched the complete game.
