The Butler County Board of Education met Thursday night to address some last minute business before the start of school.

One of the things approved by the board was an increase in the price of the school lunch from $1.35 to $1.50.

The increase in price will increase school revenue by an estimated $15,000.

Much of the meeting was also spent listening to updates on the projects at W.O. Parmer Elementary school.

A three-phase plan was presented, with the traffic flow to and around the campus being one of the major issues addressed.

&uot;We only have funding for phase one right now, but we thought we should have plans in place for phases two and three,&uot; said superintendent Mike Looney.

An update on the plans for new Georgiana High School was also given.

There were no major changes in the plan since the last update, but a few issues brought up at the last presentation were addressed.

&uot;We appreciate your addressing those issues,&uot; said board member Linda Hamilton.

While the board was dealing with construction issues, they approved the relocation of the Greenville bus shop.

The bus shop is currently located near the football stadium, and plans are to move to the old Greenville High School.

The relocation will give additional parking area at the football stadium, but it will take time because the old building has asbestos in it.

The board also approved construction of bathrooms and concession stands at Georgiana’s football stadium.

Following Looney’s recommendation, the board voted to discontinue the Even Start Plan.

&uot;We’ve had a lack of success, and continuation doesn’t make good financial sense to us,&uot; Looney said.

Looney also said that there are alternative adult education opportunities and pre-school students could be integrated into existing programs.

The board also granted permission to negotiate the purchase of up to five acres of property on Tiger Drive.

The land would possibly be used for tennis facilities for the school and community.

Finally, the board took care of a number of personnel issues.

l Daisy Ruffin as a CNP worker at the Education and Community Learning Center and Greenville High School,

l Joe Neal Stewart as a utility worker in the transportation department,

l Claudette Truitt as a school nurse (LPN) at Greenville Elementary School,
