At the regular Luverne City Council meeting Monday evening, Mayor Joe Rex Sport announced that there will be a tentative power outage at the request of the Electric Board due to some work that is needed to be done.

The outage should affect only residents of the city of Luverne and should last from midnight, Saturday, Aug. 4, until around 5 a.m. However, this is still a tentative scheduled event.

In other business, Mayor Sport said there would be a 6.75 percent rate increase coming in from the Electric Board, which means the city of Luverne could see a possible rate increase in its power bills of approximately 4.5 percent.

&#8220We'll know more about that at our next meeting,” Sport said.

Also, the City Council unanimously voted to approve the recommendation of Randall Parker to finish the term of former Council Member Jimmy Lester, who recently turned in his resignation.
