Coming down to the wire

Last week was an exciting week for Butler County football.

You had Greenville locking up a playoff spot, Georgiana taking another step toward homefield advantage, Fort Dale clinching homefield, and McKenzie dropping out of the playoffs at the literal last second.

Now we’re hitting the home stretch and these teams are trying to gain some momentum heading into the playoffs.

Fort Dale at Lowndes

The Eagles played better last week than they have all year.

The running game is clicking, and it seems that everyone is healthy.

Lowndes is having a good season so far this year, and they haven’t been blown out by anyone.

It’ll be a close game, but if Fort Dale plays like they are capable of playing, it won’t be too close.

Fort Dale 27, Lowndes 17

Greenville at Charles Henderson

Charles Henderson is the top team in the region, and have a spotless 8-0 record.

It’s going to be a tough challenge for Greenville, that’s for sure.

Greenville will be pumped up after winning a playoff spot, and I think they’ll give the Trojans a run for their money.

Excel at Georgiana

Excel needs this win to be assured of a playoff spot, and they won’t be too happy being picked as the homecoming opponent.

It seems that Georgiana has a way of pulling out these region games, and homefield is on the line.

With all the alumni and Panther Nation out in full force, I think Excel better starting pulling for Flomaton and Bayside to lose.

Georgiana 31, Excel 20

McKenzie at Florala

With the Tigers out of the playoffs, they have nothing to play for but pride and hopefully salvaging a 7-3 record.

Florala is standing in their way, and the Wilcats have had a very good season, although they haven’t blown any of their opponents out.

If McKenzie gives it as much effort as they gave against Providence Christian, Florala will have their hands full, but I don’t know if the Tigers have it left in the tank.

Florala 25, McKenzie 22

Current high school record: 22-9
