The up-and-coming 1A Pleasant Home Lady Eagles fought at home against powerhouse Kinston Tuesday night, but lost in three games 9-25, 15-25, 17-25.

Lady Eagles head coach Jerry Davis said that, despite the loss, the team played its best match since the beginning of the season.

“It was probably the best we played this year,” Davis said. “You’ve got to understand where we are coming from. We were at the midpoint in two games and had the opportunity to win, but we just don’t know how to close yet. We have a lot of experience problems and Kinston is really good.”

Davis said he was waiting for the game against Kinston to gauge where the team needs to most improve.

“I was looking forward to Kinston so we can possibly see where we need improving,” he said. “This was the first game I was really concerned about and we did a lot of good stuff. We didn’t get serves at times. I’m proud of the girls because Kinston had to play a little bit (Tuesday night).”

There were some rallies that Davis said helped the team to keep being competitive.

“We were getting some good rallies there,” he said. “This was the first time we played somebody where they hit from the strong and weak side. Right now, we’re trying to protect us and we’re getting better.”

The Lady Eagles will host Straughn on Thursday night and play starts at 4 p.m.
