Florala preparing to face talented Brantley

The Florala Wildcats (0-2, 0-1) have been working hard all week to put their 54-7 loss to McKenzie behind them and are practicing to get geared up for their game against the Brantley Bulldogs (2-0, 1-0).
On the loss last week, Wildcats head coach Stan Gooden said at one point everything started to go wrong.
“I think a lot of the loss happened especially in the second half,” Gooden said. “It was a lack of effort in certain spots and once things started going wrong, everything went wrong. They were disappointed, but it was hard to describe it. There were some kids there that we didn’t get 100 percent out of on every snap. We’re going to work in those areas so that they can give us 100 percent every play or we’ll find somebody who will.”
This week, Gooden said the team went back to the “basics” to try and focus on Florala.
“The better team won,” he said. “They’ve got a good football team and have a good shot at making the playoffs. We’re not even looking at Brantley this week. We’re looking at ourselves and trying to build our confidence back up.
“We are confident that something good is going to happen to us whether this week or down the road,” he said. “We’re building young players and they are hungry to win at the same time are ready to play football.”
On the progress at practice this week, Gooden said the team has worked real hard to get better.
“We’ve worked real hard this week to try to get better at the fundamentals,” Gooden said. “I hope we give 100 percent effort every play Friday night. Brantley’s got a strong tradition and that’s where we eventually want to be.
“We’re going to go up to Brantley and try and give them our best effort,” he said. “I just hope we close the deal on this one, so come out and support these kids and get behind them. I hope everyone travels to Brantley Friday to support the Wildcats.”
Kickoff time is at 7 p.m.
