The coming weeks are shaping up to be busy ones at the Covington Center Arena.

Tony Wells, arena manager, said events will be featured at the arena during four of the next six weekends.

“We have a lot of repeat events coming back of Andalusia this year,” Wells said. “We have one of the best facilities around and people love coming to Covington County.”

Wells said the Covington County Drill Team will sponsor the Junior and Senior High School Rodeo on Sept. 20 and 21.

“Tricia Courson is heading that event up,” he said. “I don’t know how many years we’ve held this event here, but it always draws a big crowd — not only in participants but spectators too.

“There are generally quite a few local kids who participate in the rodeo,” he said. “It’s a great time for the family to come out and support their community and their kids.”

During the following weekend, the venue will play host to the Southern Mule and Donkey Classic.

The weekend will consist of hobby horse races for the children, barrel racing, pole racing, coon jumping, obstacle courses, log skidding, trail riding and driving.

Handlers will compete throughout the day in youth, junior and adult divisions.

Wells said admission is usually free for the event.

October will begin with the American Quarter Horse Association Amateur Horse Show. The next two weekends are open, but the month will end with the Kiwanis Covington County Fair scheduled for Oct. 20-26.

Wells said he wanted to remind everyone RV spaces are always available on the midway. For more information, visit the website at www.covcenter.com or call 428-2045.
