The Straughn Tigers (2-0, 1-0 in Class 3A, Region 1) will travel to play Cottage Hill Christian Academy in Mobile tonight to try and continue their winning streak in the season.

Cottage Hill (0-2, 0-1) faced off against T.R. Miller last week and lost 48-19.

Coach Trent Taylor said that Cottage Hill has a number of good players.

“Cottage Hill has got a good football team,” Taylor said. “They have a tremendous quarterback who is 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds. He’s been starting down there for the past few years. He’s got a cannon for an arm. They’ve also got several talented receivers around.

“This’ll be the first time that we’ll face this type of offense this year,” he said. “Instead of stopping the run like we have, we’re now concerned with stopping their passing game.”

Taylor added that Cottage Hill has a running back the defense will try to stop this week.

“Their rushing game is pretty good as well,” he said. “(D’Ambro) Chapman, he’s 5-foot-6 and 140 pounds and is quick as a hiccup. He’s hard to hem up. That, along with having to travel so far because the first two have been at home been and it’s been easy, it just brings a different situation for sure.”

At practice this week, Taylor said the team mainly has been working on making sure players are where they need to be.

“We’re really working on our secondary and linebackers and making sure we’re dropping where we need to be,” Taylor said. “We’ve talked about the defensive line getting up off the football and reading on the run to make sure they are able to distinguish between a running play and a pass play.”

Kickoff in Mobile is at 7 p.m.
