The Andalusia Bulldogs (1-2, 1-1 in Class 4A, Region 1) will face off against the Jackson Aggies (3-0, 2-0) in Jackson tonight at 7.

Last week, the Bulldogs pulled out a 26-0 win over W.S. Neal, while Jackson defeated Clarke County in a close game, 13-6.

Coach Brian Seymore said the team right now is ready for the challenge.

“I feel pretty comfortable where we are,” Seymore said. “We’ve just got to keep making strides on plays like we did last week and continue to get better.”

Fumbles plagued the Bulldogs at times against Neal last week and Seymore said the team was not in focus.

“To me, fumbles are sometimes caused by a lack of effort and sometimes are caused by a lack of focus,” he said. “I think ours right now is a lack of focus. When you get into a situation when the contact is coming, you’ve got to be aware that you have got to take care of that football. That’s the main thing.”

Seymore said Friday’s opponent is a solid football team.

“Coach Jeff Kelley is in his first year at Jackson and was the head coach at Satsuma,” Seymore said. “Coach Kelley has done a good job with the Jackson program. I think the program is one of the top teams in Region 1 and there’s no doubt about it, they’ve got a real solid football team. They’ve got a good mixture of size and athleticism.”

On the game tonight, Seymore said that he plans on mixing things up a bit on both sides of the ball.

“Offensively, we’re going to try and give them a lot of different looks,” he said. “We’re going to mix it up. We’ve got to do a good job to keep their defense off balance. We’re going to try and change the snap count a lot and get them to be over aggressive because they have a very aggressive defense. I really feel like our defense had a good week at practice and I think they’re focused and have learned the game plan now to lead the way (tonight) to be successful.”

Seymore said some of Jackson’s top players include Corey Besteda and Shuntavis Sims. Besteda is the Aggies’ quarterback and also plays some wide receiver, while Sims plays on the defensive line and as a linebacker.
