The Red Level Tigers showed promise in the opening quarter against visiting Class 2A, Region 1 opponent Millry Friday night, but the Wildcats claimed the night in the end 42-6.

“Our boys played with heart tonight and they played with intensity,” Red Level head football coach Tim Grimes said. “I will admit that I was not prepared. Millry has a quality team. I made several bad calls and put us behind the eight ball quite a bit.”

Red Level senior safety D.J. Sankey provided damage control throughout the night with three interceptions. Sankey also delivered seven tackles, with three of those solo efforts.

Millry (2-2, 2-1 in Class 2A, Region 1) wasted little time delivering the goods, tacking on their first touchdown in the opening minutes of the first half, to take a 7-0 lead.

Red Level junior Jon-Jon Neal issued an immediate response to the pressure with a 42-yard touchdown run. The extra point was blocked and Millry retrained a 7-6 lead.

Red Level (1-3, 0-3) experienced several close calls throughout the remainder of the night, but failed to reach the end zone.

The Tigers compiled a total of 85 yards, all rushing.

Millry continued to punish the Tigers throughout the remainder of the night.

The Wildcats pushed Red Level into the end zone to earn a safety, increasing their lead 9-6. Millry followed the effort with a second touchdown with 5:12 remaining in the first half to increase its lead to 16-6.

Millry added one more touchdown at the tail end of the first half and delivered three in the second half to secure a comfortable 42-6 region win.

The Wildcats delivered 33 rushes for a total 204 yards and completed 12 of 21 passes for 202 yards, delivering a total of 406 yards offensively.

The Red Level Tigers will travel to Florala next Friday for a non-region contest against the Class 1A Wildcats.
