Straughn faces county rival

The Straughn Tigers (4-0) will play the rival Opp Bobcats (3-1) Friday night at home.

The last time the two teams met was in 2006, where the Tigers won 14-12.

Head coach Trent Taylor said the game makes for a good rivalry.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” Taylor said. “(Opp) looks real good. Coach (Jack) Whigham is doing a great job as we know he would. They’ve got three region wins. I think probably we’re very similar. They got some key seniors in key spots and some young players in spots like we do.”

Taylor said practice this week has been good because of the weather.

“Practice has been good this week,” he said. “It’s been a lot cooler and that’s helped a whole lot. We haven’t had to battle the heat not quite as bad this week.”

Taylor said Opp’s running game will be something the team has to stop in order to be successful.

“They have a real good running game and do a good job with the help of a couple of tailbacks that run very hard,” he said. “They also have a couple of kids at fullback that run real hard as well.”

Kickoff in Straughn is at 7 p.m.
