The Andalusia High School baseball team will have an NCAA 2009 Xbox 360 football tournament on Sat., Oct. 4, to help raise money for the upcoming season.

Head baseball coach Jonathan Rasberry said the fundraiser is a fun way for the kids to help raise money.

“It’s a different type fundraiser,” Rasberry said. “It’s fun to get the kids out there and getting them to enjoy it. It’s not some stressful fundraiser where the kids have to raise the money, it’s just something fun.”

Anybody is invited to attend the fundraiser and admission is $10 per person.

Rasberry said he came up with the idea upon seeing it done on ESPN.

“I just thought of the idea,” he said. “I had seen it on ESPN and Madden and I talked to some of the players and said they play the game. So, I thought we would have a NCAA tournament.”

Rasberry added the tournament would reveal who is good and who still needs work at playing the game.

“It’s just something fun for the kids and gives a little bit of support for the baseball program,” he said. “It gives an opportunity to see who’s the best at the game. A lot of people talk about how they good they are at the game. When it comes down to it, sometimes they are and sometimes they aren’t. Right now, NCAA football is about exciting as it gets with everything that’s changing with the bowl championship series.”

The tournament will take place in the AHS cafeteria and players will participate in double elimination on the football game. TVs and game consoles will be available for playing.

Proceeds from the tournament will help support the AHS baseball program.

The tournament will last from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
