The Andalusia Bulldogs (1-4, 1-2 in Class 4A, Region 1) will host the Thomasville Tigers (3-2, 2-1) in hopes they can come out with a win Friday night.

Both teams last met in the third round of the 2006 state playoffs and Thomasville came out with the win, 42-26.

Head coach Brian Seymore said the Tigers have a good running team and the defense must play smart to contain them.

“They’ve got a Wing-T based offense and they’re a predominantly running team,” Seymore said. “They have a kid that’s been a three-year starter for them and they’re very good up front. They come up off the football real well.”

Seymore said in order to be successful tonight, the Bulldogs should not make mistakes.

“On defense we have got to be good,” he said. “There is so much ball faking on the Wing-T and we’ve got to take our assignments and respond. We’ve got to do a good job tackling on the field. Lining up is also key, we’ve got to make sure we line up correctly and carry the assignments out.”

On how the team looks going into tonight’s game, Seymore said they still have multiple injured players.

“We’re banged up pretty good and have several injuries,” Seymore said. “Ken Chambers hurt his shoulder in the Greenville game. There are some positives though, (senior) Alex Johnston will be back to play this week. Brent (Shiver) will start at quarterback and if needed, we’ll run some other packages.”

In addition to making sure the team is healthy, Seymore said he is thankful there are some home games in the second half of the season.

“The schedule was kind of tough early when we had our games on the road,” Seymore said. “The first four of five were on the road so it’s kind of tough. It’s good to be back in front of the home crowd and have that home field advantage. I just want to have a good turnout Friday and the community to come and support our kids and our program.”

Kickoff in Andalusia is at 7 p.m.
