Ray McCord

Mr. Ray McCord, 76, of Opp, died Thurs., Oct. 2, 2008, in an Opp hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sun., Oct. 5, 2008, at Foreman Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Eugene Meadows officiating. Melissa Amos provided special music and Masonic Rites were given by Worshipful Master Ron Taylor. Interment followed in Henderson Cemetery on County Road 70.
He was a retired enforcement agent with Alabama Alcohol Beverage Control Board; a former police officer for the cities of Andalusia, Opp and Eufaula; the first president of Covington County’s Fraternal Order of Police Lodge; and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Mr. McCord is survived by his wife of 54 years, Phyllis McCord of Opp; a son, Greg (Judy) McCord of Opp; a sister, Hazel (Dorphus) Mooney of Opp; a brother, Farrell (Mabel) McCord of Warner Robins, Ga.; three grandchildren, Melissa McCord (Chris) Amos of Montgomery, Jay McCord and Anna Bay McCord, both of Andalusia; and a great-grandson, Brooks Amos of Montgomery.
Pallbearers were Jay McCord, Craig Watson, Chris Amos, Rob Foshee, Ron Taylor and Bill Shaw. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Opp Masonic Lodge.
