The Pleasant Home Eagles claimed their first Class 1A, Region 2 victory of the season Friday night with a 44-0 “Coming Home” shut out over the visiting Kinston Bulldogs.

The Eagles (3-4, 1-4) delivered 38 points in the first half for a 38-0 lead over the Bulldogs (0-7) at the half Friday night before sealing the deal in the second half with one additional touchdown.

Pleasant Home head football coach Robert Bradford said his players did exactly what they have been practicing to do all season.

“We came out and we threw the ball really well, which I think is going to be key for us in the next two games,” he said. “We came out and showed we can do that. I was proud of that.”

Pleasant Home’s C.J. Langley opened the night with a 30-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to put the Eagles on the board with just under 8 minutes remaining. The point after attempt was good and the Eagles took an early 7-0 lead.

Frank Senn contributed the second touchdown of the night for Pleasant Home with a 32-yard reception delivered by Ethan King for a 14-0 lead. Tyler Barbaree scored one more touchdown for Pleasant Home in the first quarter with a 20-yard run at the 2:35 mark for a 20-0 lead.

Bradford said he was pleased with the solid plays delivered by his Eagle offense Friday night.

“We had some kids break some runs and that always makes you proud,” he said. “I think our offensive line blocked really well tonight, which is an improvement on the season. Defense did what they always do, which is run around and hit people. We play a style of defense where we are constantly attacking. They did their job tonight and they have been doing well all year.”

Pleasant Home wasted little time in the second quarter, tacking on six more points in a few seconds. Josh Godwin grabbed a long pass from King for another Eagle touchdown and a 26-0 lead with 11:50 remaining in the second quarter.

Barbaree revisited the end zone in the second quarter with a 37-yard touchdown run for the Eagles. The point after attempt was no good and Pleasant Home continued their shutout, 32-0.

A failed Kinston field goal attempt turned possession of the ball over the Eagles on their own 19-yard line with 2:45 remaining in the third quarter. Pleasant Home’s Josh Sutton responded with a more than 30-yard run to the Kinston 30 yard line. Barbaree dug deeper into Bulldog territory on the following snap and finished the job with a 6-yard touchdown reception on the final snap of the drive. The point after attempt was no good and the Eagles took a 38-0 lead at the half.

Pleasant Home’s Cory Sims delivered the final touchdown of the night with a 35-yard touchdown run at the top of the third quarter to provide the Eagles with a 44-0 win.

According to Bradford, the win will help the Eagles gather momentum during practice this week as they prepare to travel to Dothan next week to face Providence Christian.

“It will definitely help the morale of the kids,” he said. “They will be excited to come to practice on Monday. It gives us something we can build on for next week.”
