Mrs. Graves is survived by her two sons, John D. Graves and Harry Graves, both of Shreveport, La.; her two grandsons, Joshua Graves and Preston Graves; her sister, Inez Moss of Roswell, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Graves was preceded in death by her husband, Harry J. Graves; her father, John D. Riley; her mother, Inez Riley (Preston); her sister, Dr. Johnnie Dee Riley; her grandfather Dr. A.J Preston who was pastor at the First Baptist Church in Andalusia from 1912 to 1921, her great-grandfather, Malachi Riley who was a judge in Andalusia and died in 1896.
Peggy met her husband, Harry Graves, in Andalusia. They moved to Arkansas where they raised their two sons, Jody and Dan. She was a homemaker who loved and was an active member of the First Baptist Church. The church and especially the Sunday school class was an important part of her life. She was also involved in various civic organizations as well as providing volunteer work for the local hospital.
She was an avid student of British History and traveled to England fulfilling a life long dream. After the death of her husband she returned to Andalusia to care for her parents. She loved Andalusia and took great pride in the contributions here family made here. She loved music and played piano.
Although not a music teacher, she taught piano to several several students in Andalusia. As those who played against her knew, Peggy was an exceptional bridge player and loved her bridge club. On clear and crisp days when the temperature was just right she would say “It’s a diamond day”—The Lord took her such a day.
She had a wonderful personality, always upbeat and her wit and humor made her fun to be around. You always felt good when you were with Peggy. She loved people and those who knew her loved her. She will be sadly missed by her many friends.
In lieu of flowers the family request a memorial be made to either The American Cancer Society or The First Baptist Church of Andalusia.
