Phillips, Cantrell exchange vows

Adrienne Christine Cantrell of Montgomery and Joshua Scott Phillips of Opp were united in marriage on Oct. 4, 2008, at four o’clock in the afternoon outdoors on the bluff of The Oaks Plantation in Pike Road, Ala. Dr. Rick Marshall officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jackson Cantrell of Montgomery. She is the granddaughter of Mr. Alton Eugene Haraway and the late Mrs. Shirley Wynn Haraway of Montgomery, the late George Bordene Gnann Jr. of Melbourne, Fla., and the late Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Cantrell of Cocoa, Fla.

The groom is the son of Ms. Misty Jaye Phillips of Opp and Mr. Sonny Joe Phillips of Canton, Ga. He is the grandson of Mrs. Paula Sharon Phillips and the late Mr. Billy Joe Phillips and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Percy Straughan Jr., all from Opp.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a striking mermaid-style strapless diamond white taffeta gown with a bustled skirt at the knee and a chapel length train. She carried a hand tied bouquet of white roses and mini green hydrangea embellished with an antique brooch belonging to her late grandmother.

Miss Jamie Elizabeth Sellars of Montgomery served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Ashlie Brooke Stallings of Birmingham and Miss Courtney Joana Jones of Lexington, Ky.

The groom’s cousin, Mr. David Christopher Ham of Opp, served as best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Joseph Eugene Carter of Andalusia, Mr. Jonathan Blake Strickland of Opp and Mr. Joshua Brian Parker of Kinston. Ushers were Mr. Jimmy Earl Bedsole Jr. of Opp and Mr. Dustin Chad Straughan of Andalusia.

The bride’s brother, Mr. Steven Jay Cantrell of Mobile, served as scripture reader.

The flower girls were Miss Kayley Michelle Dyess of Opp and Miss Lexi Rain Straughan of Andalusia.

Harpist Donna Kemp of Opelika provided the beautiful music for the wedding. Immediately following the ceremony, guests were greeted by the sounds of the six-piece band “Sophisticated Swing,” as they entered the plantation for a southern sampling of fine food by White Wing Catering. Guests enjoyed the monogrammed four-tiered almond flavored wedding cake by Frankie Clark. Melissa Kendall Floral Designs created the beautiful fall-themed arrangements for the wedding and reception and the special centerpieces and extra touches by Mrs. Paula Culver helped create the lovely fall event the couple envisioned.

After a honeymoon trip to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, the couple will reside in Destin, Fla.
