Although the Lady Bobcats might not have a lot of “game experience,” they have rallied together to get ready for a new basketball season, which starts Thursday.

Head coach Allison Gregory said her girls are playing with a tenacity that is needed on such a young team.

“We have a young team with not a lot of game experience, but they’ve come together as a team and they’re doing a great job,” Gregory said. “They’re coming out with intensity and enthusiasm and are committed to this system and they’re playing real well right now. ”

Gregory said in order to be successful, the team has to avoid turnovers.

“We just have a lot to learn and to be able to take care of the basketball and limit our turnovers,” she said. “If we do that, then we’ll be successful.”

Gregory said she considers every game important in the season, including the area games.

“I think every game matters and every game counts,” Gregory said. “If you’re not playing hard outside of your area, you can’t expect to play hard in your area. So, every game is important.”

Gregory said her team is so young that only one player is returning from last year’s team.

“That’s Mychal Drew,” she said. “She plays the guard or the post.”

Gregory said depth on the team is few and far between.

“I think depth is going to be an issue and a problem,” she said. “We have one player back from last year’s team. The players I have back didn’t see a tremendous amount of playing time, but I think their heart, dedication and commitment to it is going to make up for a little bit of that.”

The Lady Bobcats start their regular season Thursday night, immediately following the B-team’s 4:30 tip off.
