It will be a music filled night as the Tourism and Relocation Committee presents its next to the last Music Around Town event for 2007 on Thursday.

A group of more than 20 performers will take the stage at City Hall at 6 p.m. as “Golden Oldies” is presented.

Musical selections for the night range from the 1930s to the 1960s and will be performed by locals such as the First United Methodist Church choir, who will sing “The Great Pretender” and “Sincerely,” to Angie Sasser, who will sing “Coconut Grove,” and Justin Schuver, who will perform “When Irish Eyes are Smiling” and “With a Song in my Heart.”

Barbara Nichols, a committee member, said performances such as this are designed with the family in mind.

“Jewel Curry, who is the committee director, said it perfectly,” Nichols said. “(The committee’s) main goal is to provide wholesome entertainment for families, and Thursday will be packed with not only great entertainment, but also great local talent.”

Nichols said each of the events are held at different locations within the city to incorporate “two great aspects of the city — landmarks and talent.”

“We do a gospel concert, a patriotic one and more,” she said. “What’s really neat is to bring the Golden Oldies to the city hall. It’s such a historic landmark. This is a wonderful way to incorporate two great aspects of our city — landmarks and talent.”

Nichols said the night’s event would not be possible without the help of volunteer work.

“I think it’s amazing that so much of what happens around town is done by volunteers and that’s a real tribute to the people of Andalusia,” she said. “They want to do things special and make living here special, and I think that’s accomplished.”

The night’s event is free to the public and everyone is invited to attend.

Next on the list for the committee is the annual “Christmas on the Square” event set for Dec. 4.

“It will begin with the tree lighting ceremony and caroling on the Square,” Nichols said. “It’s going to be great.”
