Andalusia’s Nico Johnson sealed an overtime victory for the Bulldogs Friday night, as Andalusia ousted Enterprise, 74-73.

With seven seconds left in the basketball game, Andalusia (2-0) put the ball into the hands of Johnson who attempted a lay up. Johnson missed the first time, but made up for it at the sound of the buzzer to get the win for his team.

“I couldn’t believe it, we fought and didn’t give up,” Johnson said. “Words can’t even explain it because we haven’t beat (Enterprise) in so long. To beat them that way, that hurts (them) worse than a 20-point loss. I’m proud that we won and for Coach (Richard Robertson). We won without quitting, which is a stepping stone for us.”

As for the rest of the season, Johnson said the team has more “confidence.”

“We have more confidence now that we beat Enterprise,” he said.

To bring the game into overtime, Andalusia’s leading scorer Brandon Sims put up a two-pointer to bring the game to 64 points apiece.

Before the overtime challenge, the Bulldogs led throughout the first half, 20-9 after the first quarter and 33-20 after the second quarter.

Enterprise held a one-point lead going into the fourth quarter.

Head coach Richard Robertson said even though his team won Friday night, they still have work to do.

“We were blessed tonight,” Robertson said. “We made every mistake you can make. The one thing about it is that we didn’t quit. We’re our own worst enemy, but the thing about is that we can’t stand prosperity. We turn it over and blow high percentage shots.

“I told them at halftime, until we can get consistent and play mistake-free and sound basketball, we’re going to struggle,” he said.

On what needs to be worked on, Robertson said the team needs to work on playing consistent basketball.

“Everything (needs work), but the biggest thing is teaching them how to play and sticking to it,” Robertson said. “It’s the same thing, they have to grow up and understand how to play fundamentally sound basketball.”

The leading scorers for the Bulldogs were Sims with 22 points and Johnson with 15 points.

In earlier action Friday night, the Lady Bulldogs claimed victory 56-47.

Leading scorers for the Lady Bulldogs were Chantavia Lawrence with 13 points and Anjelica White with 12 points.

Andalusia will play T.R. Miller on Tues., Nov. 25 in Brewton. Play starts at 4:30 p.m.
