Declining economic conditions may be taking their toll on this year’s Covington County United Fund Drive, which has seen little progress since the conclusion of individual company fund-raising drives in November.

Heather Murphy, secretary for the Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce, said donations received to date total $92,000 and equal approximately 56 percent of CCUF’s intended goal of $162,000. That money will be used to support local non-profit agencies in 2009.

“Donations have been slow coming for Andalusia and Opp,” Murphy said. “We just have not made the progress we had hoped to make at this point.”

The last big boost to the fund came with the conclusion of an individual drive held by Shaw Industries in Andalusia. That fund-raising effort generated approximately $38,600, which represented 25 percent of the $162,000 goal and 40 percent of the county’s expected pledges.
