The Red Level Tigers will take to the court again this year, hoping to be successful in Class 2A, Area 1.

Excel, Flomaton and Mobile Christian make up Red Level’s area opponents, and coach Fred Kelley said it should come down to who can “win on the road.”

“We moved to a different area this year because of the realignment,” he said. “Excel and Flomaton — we played them in the past, traditionally. I feel like it’s going to be competitive. I think it’s going to be a matter to who maybe can win one on the road.”

Kelley said the teams that concern him the most are Flomaton and Excel.

“Our main goal is to have the best area record so we can have the opportunity to host the tournament,” he said. “It makes it easy for us and our fans to get a little bit of momentum going. If we could be a No. 1 seed, we can play a No. 4 seed.”

Kelley said his strategy going into January will be centered around his team remaining “focused.”

“We’ve got to be focused, especially with the caliber teams we’re playing,” he said. “We’ve got to have intensity and it’s got to carry from the time we enter our home gym to the end of the ball game.

Red Level will start area play against Excel on Jan. 6.
