The Andalusia Bulldogs (14-1, 2-0 in Class 4A, Area 3) climbed to the No. 1 position in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association poll released this week.

Andalusia coach Richard Robertson said his team is proud of the honor, but there is still work that needs to be done.

“We are proud for the honor, but we still have to do the job on the court,” Robertson said. “I still think we can do better and are trying to do better. It’s hard to try to make the kids understand what you’re tring to do under this success.

“The last two days, we’ve been working on what we’re doing on Saturday.”

Robertson said this latest poll release is significant because of Andalusia’s history as a basketball program.

“We haven’t been anywhere in eight years,” he siad. “We can’t get caught up in rankings. We need to take care of ourselves. Right now, we’re worrying about being No.1 in our area and stop beating ourselves.”

Andalusia will tip off against Calera Saturday, starting at 4 p.m.
