An estimated 2,000 Internet subscribers were without service for approximately 15 hours Thursday after AlaWeb Pioneer Services lost its Internet connection through CenturyTel about 2 a.m.

The connection was lost during a scheduled overnight software upgrade by CenturyTel.

CenturyTel public relations manager Jennifer Doherty said, “This is a top priority for a number of our employees who are working with the software manufacturer to pinpoint the glitch and restore service as soon as possible. CenturyTel deeply regrets any inconvenience to customers.”

Meanwhile, as CenturyTel tried to work out software problems, AlaWeb was looking for other solutions. In a statement issued Thursday afternoon, the company said it was working with Andalusia TV Cable Co. to “find another route to the Internet.”

“AlaWeb Pioneer apologizes for the inconvenience and asks its customers to be patient as we work with Andy Cable and CenturyTel to resolve this problem,” the statement said.
