Mr. McRhee Hugghins, 71, of Red Level, passed away Sat., Jan. 17, 2009, in Pensacola, Fla., after a valiant battle with cancer. McRhee Hugghins was a devoted husband and loving father. He was born and raised in Covington County. Mr. Hugghins and his wife, Faye (Patterson), started Hugghins Sod Farms, Inc. nearly 35 years ago, and it continues to flourish today.
Mr. Hugghins was survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Faye (Patterson) Hugghins; four sons: Rockford Scott (Connie) Hugghins of Oxford, Ala.; Michael Wade (Christy) Hugghins of Andalusia; Jeffery Todd Hugghins of Pell City, Ala.; Thomas Berton Hugghins of Andalusia; three granddaughters: Jessica Roxanne Hugghins, Andrea Faye Hugghins and Brittany Lynn Hugghins; two brothers: Harry C. Hugghins of Red Level and Dr. John T. Hugghins of Panama City, Fla.; one sister, Eleanor Jean (Hugghins) Johnson of Opelika, Ala.; numerous nieces and nephews, and Jason Dickert, a son-like friend that was very special to him.
Mr. Hugghins was preceded in death by his parents Homer and Allie Mae (Sullivan) Hugghins, and two brothers, Marlin and Allison Hugghins.
Mr. Hugghins lay in state Thurs., Jan. 22, at 5:30 p.m. at Foreman Brown-Service Funeral Home in Andalusia. Services were held on Fri., Jan. 23, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Andalusia with Pastors Dr. Fred W. Karthous III and Joe Jackson officiating.
Pallbearers were Jason Dickert, Steven Hugghins, John T. Hugghins III, Benjamin Hugghins, Shad Williams and Crum Foshee Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. John O. Gage, Mark Murphy, Dr. Frank Maddox, Doug Moorer, Hugh Barrow, Billy Hugghins, Speaker of the House Seth Hammett, E.C. “Crum” Foshee, Don Ingram and Ed Short.
Burial followed at the Long Branch Cemetery in Cohassett, Ala. Foreman Brown-Service Funeral Home directed.
