Ernest Burnside

Mr. Ernest Ray Burnside of Dozier died Fri., Feb. 6, 2009, in an Opp nursing facility. Graveside services with military honors were held Sun., Feb. 8, 2009, at the Dozier Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Hogwood and the Rev. Oris Sanders officiating and Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Burnside, born May 7, 1919, in Kincheloe, W. Va., was the son of the late Ernest Robert Burnside and Dessie Chandler Burnside. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Annie Rawls Burnside.
Retired from the U. S. Air Force and Civil Service, he was a member of Dozier Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Robbins Burnside; half-sister, Joan B. Lough, and half-brother, Robert Gene Burnside, both of Jane Lew, W. Va.; two step-daughters, Rosemary (John Allen) Gantt of Andalusia and Melissa Stephens of Lisle, Ill.; seven step-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Dozier Baptist Church Building Fund, Dozier, Ala.
