RLS gets ‘sluggish’ win

A “sluggish” performance by the Red Level Tigers Monday afternoon at home turned into a 11-9 win over the Pleasant Home Eagles.

The Tigers were down 4-2 and then went ahead 6-4 in the fourth inning. In the fifth, they went up 11-5.

Red Level coach Tony Ingram said the team looked “tired.”

“We just looked tired,” Ingram said. “We played 18 innings in two games Saturday and took one day off. We looked real sluggish from the time we got there and the time we started Monday.”

On Friday, Red Level will host Mobile Christian in its second area game of the season.

“It’s going to be a big one,” Ingram said. “We’re not really familiar with them. They were 3A last year and went to the semifinals last year. I expect them to be very sound.”

Ingram said his team’s performance right now is not the best and still needs improving.

“We’re not ready to play yet and I know it is bad to say it,” he said. “We started the season on the fly. We’re doing things now we needed to do in January, but we’re playing our way into shape. That’s the way it is in small school ball.”

Ingram said the team will be ready for the game Friday and that they are taking every game to get “better.”

“We’re just trying to find ourselves,” Ingram said. “We’re trying to overcome injuries and finding people to play in spots we didn’t think they would to have to play.”

The matchup against Mobile Christian on Friday will start at 4 p.m. in a varsity doubleheader.
