Mrs. Bertie Lee Newby, 100, of Opp, died Tues., March 3, 2009, at her residence.
Funeral services were held Thurs., March 5, at Mount Olive Bible Church with the Rev. Jerry Elmore officiating. Special music was provided by Charlotte Hurst, Janice Carnley, Andy Marler and Horace and Edna Turner. Interment followed in the Zion Hill Church cemetery with Wyatt Funeral Home directing.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald (Margaret) Newby of Brewton; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn (Robert) McCurley of Opp and Mary Ann (Floyd) Odom of Andalusia; nine grandchildren, Jerry Newby, Johnny Newby, Virginia Abston, Mike Newby, Bryan Newby, Mark Odom, Chris Odom, Sandi Henley and Carla Ballard; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Newby; sons, Roy L. and Essie B. Newby; grandchildren, David Newby and Sherri Odom; and great-grandson, Kenneth Hultz.
Pallbearers were Mike Newby, Bryan Newby, Mark Odom, Chris Odom, Brock Ballard and Scotty Henley.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Crowe, Wiregrass Hospice, Deborah Neal from the Health Department, Bro. Jerry Elmore and Mt. Olive Bible Church and her wonderful caregivers, Jeanette Johnson, Debbie Odom and Louise Walker, for the loving care given to their precious mother and grandmother.
