The No. 1 Pleasant Home Lady Eagles had a six-run rally in the seventh inning Monday night, defeating Kinston in area play, 7-0.

In the first inning, Pleasant Home’s Brittany Ward grounded out to score Erin Byrd to make it 1-0.

Byrd reached on base on a single and advanced on base on a single from Kati Reeves.

The game stayed 1-0 for the visiting Lady Eagles (13-6, 6-0 in Class 1A, Area 3) until Byrd hit a three-run double with the bases loaded to score Kayla Woods, Megan Cook and Shanda Martin.

Woods singled, Cook singled and Martin reached on a walk.

“The big play of the game was when Byrd doubled with bases loaded,” Pleasant Home coach Jimmy Reeves said. “She has been great on defense and now her stick is starting to warm up for us. That’s going to make us a lot better team.”

Later in the inning, Gina Davis hit an RBI double to score Byrd, Kati Reeves walked and Brittany Ward hit a two-run double to score Davis and Reeves to win the game.

Brentin Fuller got the win for the Lady Eagles Monday night. Fuller only gave up three hits, two walks and had eight strikeouts.

“(Fuller’s) been phenomenal and I’ve been really pleased with my pitching period,” Reeves said. “Gina and Brentin have both pitched real well. I just hope that that continues.”
