Hester Little

Mrs. Hester Brogden Little, was born Jan. 27, 1917, in Covington County, and died at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika on April 14, 2009.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Thurs., April 16, at Gantt Baptist Church with the burial to follow at Ables Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Her lifetime was spent mainly in Andalusia with her family. Early in her career she went into department store management. In the mid-1950s, she established her business in styling, cosmetics and gift selections. She retired from business in 1985. Mrs. Little was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Andalusia.
Mrs. Little is survived by a son, T.D. (Ted) Little of Auburn; three grandchildren, Grover David Tadlock (Sheri) of Lavalatte, W. Va., Mollie Little Preacher of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Terre Little Jackson (Perry) of Birmingham; one brother, Ed Brogden of Montgomery; five sisters, Hilda Sharpe of Andalusia, Eddie Jo Gilmer of Lewiston, N.Y., Maxine Thomas of Atlanta, Ga., Mary Sue Brown (Al) of Andalusia and Betty Baldwin (Bill) of Andalusia, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward H. Brogden and Bess Grantham Brogden; by her husband of 67 years, Grover H. Little; her daughter, Grovernell Little Tadlock; brother, Carroll Brogden, and sister, Janis Brogden Vanistory.
The family would like to express gratitude to Earlene Smith of Opelika, long time trusted friend and caregiver of Mrs. Little. Additionally, the staff and administration of Oak Park, East Alabama Medical Center Hospice and Clara Haynes are given special appreciation for the care and support given to Mrs. Little.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the charity of your choice. Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home of Opelika is in charge of arrangements.
