Elizabeth Charlotte (Pat) Bulmer Smith of Andalusia died April 25, 2009, in Jacksonville, Fla. She was born Jan. 5, 1923, in London, England, to parents Alfred Archibald and Annie Beatrice Bulmer. She was one of nine children, two of whom are still living in England.
Pat lived in England until she met and married the love of her life, Durell Smith of Walker County, Ala., during World War II. Shortly after his discharge from the U.S. Army in 1945, Pat and Durrell returned to the U.S., where they were inseparable for the next 63 years until Durell predeceased Pat in December 2007.
Pat and Durell had two beautiful daughters, Shirley Busey, who predeceased her parents in 2002, and Dale Broussard, of Houma, La. In time, Shirley and Dale blessed Pat and Durell with five grandchildren of whom they were very proud: Brooks Busey, Durell Busey Myers, Dr. William G. King III, Dr. R. Parrish King and Elizabeth King Clark, as well as two great-grandchildren.
Although she assisted Durell over the years with the family’s retail shoe business, Pat was a consummate homemaker throughout her life, devoted to her family as a selfless and nurturing wife, mother and grandmother.
Now reunited with soul mate Durrell, services in remembrance of Pat and celebrating her life will be held today, Thurs., April 30, with visitation at 10 a.m., followed by services at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Andalusia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church.
Pallbearers will be Brooks Busey, Will King, Parrish King, Ronnie Broussard, Doug Myers and David Clark.
Family and friends unable to attend the services may sign the guest registry online at www.foremanfuneralhome.com.
