Due to inclement weather Tuesday afternoon, the Class 1A, Area 3 tournament at the Andalusia Sports Complex was postponed until today at 1 p.m.

At approximately 2 p.m. Tuesday, play was stopped during the Kinston-McKenzie game in the third inning, with Kinston leading 3-0. Pleasant Home will face the winner of Kinston-McKenzie after that game has finished.

Before the rain started, Pleasant Home defeated Florala, 19-0, and Kinston, 1-0. Florala was knocked out of the tournament when McKenzie won, 11-10.

Pleasant Home’s Gina Davis pitched a complete game no-hitter to help lead her team to a 1-0 victory over Kinston Tuesday in the Class 1A, Area 3, tournament at the Andalusia Sports Complex.

Davis earned the win, allowing no runs, one walk and striking out seven.

“You’re talking about getting good pitching, good catching and good defense,” Pleasant Home coach Jimmy Reeves said. “We always got a chance and I thought we played outstanding on that side of the ball.”

The Lady Eagles scored their only run in the bottom of the third inning when Erin Byrd hit an RBI double to score courtesy runner Raven Woods. Woods ran for Ariel Gunter, who reached on a single.

Reeves said he was happy to see that Gunter made contact with the ball.

“She’s had a tough year hitting and we’ve been talking all year that it was a matter of time before she started hitting,” he said. “She got two big hits for us today and then Erin Byrd knocked her in with two outs. I’ve got some seniors coming through like they are supposed to, so I was real proud of that.”

Gunter was 2-for-2 with one single and one double; and Byrd was 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Having won the first two games of their area tournament, the Lady Eagles (27-8) will face the winner of the Kinston-McKenzie game.

Reeves said the rain did not help with the momentum they were experiencing.

“It takes the advantage away we had,” Reeves said. “It gives an opportunity for Kinston to go back and regroup. They still have to beat us two games in a row.

“You’ve still got the same situation, but they would have been a lot more tired (Tuesday) than they will be (today),” he said. “So, I was hoping we were going to finish, but that’s not the way the good Lord planned it.”

Florala 0

In their first game, the Lady Eagles routed Florala, 19-0, in five innings.

Pleasant Home scored three runs in the first inning, five runs in the second, four runs in the third and seven runs in the fourth inning to earn the win.

Emily Byrd earned the win for the Lady Eagles.

McKenzie 11, Florala 10

The Lady Wildcats ended their season Tuesday falling in eight innings to McKenzie, 11-10.

Florala coach Pat Maddox said there was “not a lot to say” about the losses.

“We lost and there is not a lot to say,” Maddox said. “(My team) played hard the second game. The ball bounced one way or the other and we were in that game. It was kind of like our last game, when we beat (McKenzie) by one run. We’ll be better next year.”

Florala ended its season with a 6-17 record.

In other action at the tournament, Kinston defeated McKenzie in its first game, 14-1.
