Andalusia Isshinryu brings home 10 1st-place finishes

Members of Andalusia Isshinryu Karate competed in the third annual Bessemer USYKA Traditional tournament and brought home 10 first-place finishes.

Results of all Andalusia Isshinryu competitors for their appropriate age group are as follows:

Hogan Nichols — first place brown belt weapons, second place brown belt kata and first place brown belt fighting.

Rex Butler — first place brown belt weapons, first place brown belt kata and second place brown belt fighting.

Allen Butler — first place black belt musical forms, first place black belt weapons, first place black belt kata and second place black belt fighting.

Marie Josey — first place green belt weapons and second place green belt fighting.

Kassidy Mears — fourth place green belt weapons and first place green belt fighting.

John Allen Wise — second place green belt weapons, fourth place green belt kata and third place green belt fighting.

Kristen Kelley — second place green belt weapons and third place green belt kata.

Camille Holley — fourth place green belt kata and second place green belt fighting.

Colin Marcum — third place yellow belt fighting.

Rexanne Butler — fourth place brown belt weapons. third place brown belt kata and fourth place green belt kata.

Rusty Mears — third place white/yellow belt kata and third place white/yellow belt fighting.

Mark Rudd — first place senior black belt fighting.

On June 6, Andalusia Isshinryu Karate will host the South Alabama Karate Open tournament. It will be held at Andalusia Elementary School gymnasium and marks the 11th year a tournament has been held in Andalusia.

The Andalusia tournament has attracted top competitors from a seven to eight state area in previous years.
