MONTGOMERY — The Pleasant Home and Straughn softball teams are still alive at the state tournament, after both teams came away with one-run victories in their first games Saturday.

Pleasant Home defeated Kinston, 2-1, in eight innings in a losers’ bracket game that knocked Kinston out of the tournament. Erin Byrd’s one-out RBI single scored Kaitlin Brookshire for the winning run.

Straughn defeated Dadeville, 4-3, in a losers’ bracket game. The Lady Tigers scored two runs in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie. Straughn scored thanks to a passed ball and an error.

Straughn faces Pisgah at noon Saturday in an elimination game. The Lady Tigers defeated Pisgah 3-2 in the opening game Friday. Pleasant Home faces Spring Garden at noon in another elimination game. Last year, Spring Garden defeated Pleasant Home, 4-3, to knock the Lady Eagles out of the tournament.
