Two Covington County football teams will get their chance to show how hard they have been working during spring training Friday night in their spring jamboree game at Pleasant Home.

PHS will host the jamboree. Other schools competing in the spring game are Florala, Samson and Zion Chapel.

Admission is $6 and the first game will start at 5 p.m. with Samson and Zion Chapel.

The second game will be between Samson and FHS at 6:15 p.m.; the third game will be between PHS and Zion Chapel at 7:30 p.m.; and the final game of the night will be between PHS and FHS at 8:45 p.m.

PHS coach Robert Bradford said there is going to be a high level of competition Friday.

“It should be a lot of fun at some good competition level for sure,” Bradford said. “I think it’s going to be four really hard-fought halves. We’re looking forward to it.”

Each team will play two halves apiece against a different team during the jamboree.

In addition, Zion Chapel and Florala’s bands are set to perform as well.

FHS coach Stan Gooden said his team had a great spring training and that the Wildcats are anxious to get on the field.

“We’ve had a good spring to this point,” Gooden said. “Our kids are real excited about finally getting to play Friday night. We’re looking to have fun and have a good time. Coach Bradford has done a good job as far as setting everything up and I expect a good crowd to come out and support these four schools.”

A spring jamboree game typically gives any football coach a good idea of where the team stands going into summer workouts.

Bradford said they evaluate based on whether they can play football.

“We don’t really put a whole lot of emphasis on winning or losing during the spring,” he said. “One thing we do is really go out and try to evaluate the kids and find out whether they can make plays or not.”

Gooden said the goal for the spring game and summer workouts is to look at what needs improvement.

“We’re going to look to be improved in a lot of areas,” he said. “So, our kids have worked hard in the offseason to try and get better and I think we will be better.

“I don’t know if that will be more wins and losses,” he said. “In the spring game we’re going to get everybody some playing time. Then, we’ll evaluate film after it’s over and go from there. The kids are excited and we’re ready to go.”

Gooden added he hopes everybody will come out and support the teams.

“I just want everyone to come out Friday night and see some football,” Gooden said. “I know a lot of folks are getting that itch for it early. I think you’re going to see some good football Friday night. Samson and Zion Chapel will both bring a good crowd. Pleasant Home is putting on a good thing down there and we’re proud to be a part of it.”
