Pleasant Home’s Brittany Ward can honestly say that she has had a great experience playing softball for the Lady Eagles.

Last weekend, Ward helped lead her team to a third place finish in the Class 1A state tournament in Montgomery.

She has earned a scholarship to play softball at Faulkner State Community College in Bay Minette. Faulkner State is also the school teammate Kati Reeves will be attending in the fall.

Ward said her time while at PHS has been rewarding, because each year is different on the team.

“It’s been really great,” she said. “It’s been different every year because you’re with a different team.”

She also said she loved traveling to different tournaments throughout the season.

“You get to travel around Alabama and play in different tournaments,” she said. “You grow as a team more and you learn more about them and get closer to everything else and learn to play softball more.”

In her final season as the short stop for the Lady Eagles, Ward managed a .300 batting average, hitting one home run.

Ward said she plays softball because it’s a sport that she plays real well.

“I play softball because I love the sport,” Ward said.

Ward added her senior year has been especially fun because everybody looks up to her.

“It’s been great,” she said. “It’s been really exciting and fun. You have the rest of the team looking up toward you.”

Ward said she considered Enterprise-Ozark Community College and Wallace Community College-Dothan before choosing Faulkner State.

She said she would like to be a nurse upon graduating from college.

Ward is the daughter of Randy And Lisa Ward of Andalusia.
