Friday, employees at CDG Engineers & Associates did their part to help out a fellow worker whose wife has been diagnosed with cancer.

From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., the employees sold Boston butts as a benefit to raise money for Kevin Hall’s wife, Cyndee Smith Hall, who has been battling brain cancer since it was first diagnosed in March 2007.

“She’s still undergoing chemotherapy at this time,” Hall said. “We take multiple trips to Birmingham for treatment, and we’re just thankful for CDG and the community for all the support they’ve given us through this process.

“(Cyndee) has a great spirit and a great will to beat this. She faces it head on and believes that she will beat it.”

Robert Shepard, vice president at CDG, said employees worked for almost two days to prepare the food for the benefit.

“We started out thinking that we’d cook maybe a hundred, and ended up having to cook more than 400 Boston butts,” he said. “We’ve been cooking for more than two days. We’re happy to do it. A big part of working at CDG is that we feel like we’re family and we’re always ready to do our part to help.”

Shepard said the benefit raised a little more than $7,000 for the Hall family. More than 50 employees participated.
