Twins beat Jays, 11-7

The Twins defeated the Blue Jays, 11-7, in the finals of the 11-to-12-year-old Little League baseball end-of-the-year tournament Thursday at Johnson Park.

Twins’ first baseman Tanner Channell helped his team claim the victory by hitting a three-run home run in the fourth inning to take a 10-2 lead at that point.

Earlier in the game, the Twins’ Ashton Mayhall and Brooks Rabren each earned two runs apiece.

Mayhall scored his first run in the first inning on an RBI single by Tucker Lawless, and his second in the second inning on an RBI double from Jacob Whatley.

Rabren crossed the plate on passed balls in the second and third innings.

The Blue Jays managed to get one run in the first inning on an RBI single from Cal McCalman to score Brayden Burkhardt.

In the third, the Jays added an additional run off an RBI single from McCalman that scored Burkhardt.

Before Channell’s three-run home run in the fourth, and during Mayhall and Rabren’s scoring drives, the Twins scored an additional three runs; one in the second inning and two in the third.

The run in the second inning came on an RBI single from Mayhall to score McKenzie Lanier. The first run in the third came when Jordan Whitman crossed the plate on an RBI single from Channell. The second came on a wild pitch that scored Channell.

The Blue Jays scored two runs in the fifth inning off a two-run home run from Colton Elmore.

In the sixth, the Jays had three runs on three hits and two walks.

The Twins scored their last run in the fifth when Lawless hit an RBI single to score Whatley.
