Red Level business owner Debo Clark, founder and owner of Collegiate Sports Travel, was honored on June 11, 2009 with the “Texas Coaching Legend” award at the Angelo Football Clinic in San Angelo, Texas.

The award was presented to her for her 20 years of dedication and contribution not only to the college football industry but to the San Angelo Football Clinic as well.

The Angelo Football Clinic is the best and largest of its kind in the country and hosts between 1,500 and 2,200 Texas high school and college coaches yearly. Collegiate Sports Travel has been a major sponsor of the clinic for over 20 years.

Attendees and speakers at the clinic this year were Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips, University of Alabama head coach Nick Saban, Texas Tech University head coach Mike Leach, Auburn University offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, University of Texas offensive coordinator Greg Davis and Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster, to name a few.

In the clinic’s 36-year history, Clark was only the 12th recipient of the award as well as the only woman and only “non-coach” to receive it. Clark is in good company, as past recipients include former Houston Oilers and New Orleans Saints head coach Bum Phillips, former Texas head coach Darrell Royal, former Alabama head coach Gene Stallings, former University of Iowa head coach Hayden Fry and former New Mexico State head coach and former scout for the Dallas Cowboys Jim Hess.

The award was presented Thursday afternoon immediately after speaker Mike Leach left the stage. Clark said this was the highlight of her career.

“I think this is the best thing that has ever happened to me in my career,” Clark said. “To be in the company of football greats like Bum, Gene, Darrell and Jim is such an honor. I am truly ecstatic and humbled at the same time. I hope I can live up to the title of a Texas Coaching Legend.”
